Installing packages in OpenWRT on low end routers

I was having problems installing packages on my D-Link DIR-300 (183Mhz MIPS CPU, 16MB RAM). Apparently, doing
#opkg update
#opkg install <package-name>
is overkill for the router; ssh times out.

There is a simple workaround: go to http://downloads.openwrt.org/ and copy the link to your package and install with
#opkg install <http://link-to-package>
